2025 Skoda Kylaq Review – Compact SUV with a European Flavour
The 2025 Skoda Kylaq is here to disrupt the compact SUV space and has the credentials to back it up. With a price of ₹7.89 lakh and a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, this sub-4m SUV promises to give you the Skoda experience at an affordable price. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive in.
A New Face: Exterior Design
Skoda’s New Design Language
Kylaq gets Skoda’s “Modern Solid” design language which debuted with L-Rock and Vision S concepts. So what does that mean? A sharp, premium look. At the front, the Skoda grille takes centre stage—wider and shorter than Kushaq. Along with that are split LED headlamps with DRLs on top and main beams below. Both are standard across all variants.
Dimensions and Build
This sub-4m SUV follows the rule, has a shorter wheelbase than Kushaq and is wider and taller than it. Despite the size, it has an SUV stance thanks to 17-inch alloy wheels and roof rails. But those roof rails are purely cosmetic.
At the back, you’ll find sleek, square LED tail lamps connected by a black plastic strip with Skoda lettering—a premium touch.
Inside: Design and Features
Cabin Layout and Materials
Step inside and it feels like home for Skoda fans. The layout is similar to Kushaq, with vertically stacked AC vents and a touchscreen dashboard. Hard plastics abound but green inserts and textured surfaces help to lift the ambiance.
The build quality is reassuringly Skoda, right down to the satisfying door thud.
Tech and Comfort Features
Tech enthusiasts will love the 10-inch touchscreen which now has a new UI and the configurable 8-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless smartphone connectivity, ventilated front seats and an electrically adjustable passenger seat (a segment first) make the cabin feel premium.
But it misses out on a 360-degree camera and panoramic sunroof which some rivals offer.
Safety: 5-Star
Bharat NCAP Rating
Safety is a big selling point for Kylaq. It has a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP so you can rest easy. The standard safety kit includes 6 airbags, ESC and Isofix mounts for child seats.
Practicality and Space
Boot space is 360 litres (up to the parcel tray) and expands with 60:40 split-folding rear seats. Not class-leading but practical enough for daily use.
Rear Seat Comfort
Rear seats have decent knee room and plenty of headroom even for tall passengers. But the backrest angle might not suit everyone and fitting three adults can feel cramped. Adjustable headrests and a centre armrest with cupholders a passenger-friendly features.
Performance: The Engine
Turbocharged Engine
Under the bonnet is a familiar 1.0L TSI engine producing 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque. No diesel option but you can choose between a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Driving
On the road, the Kylaq is impressive with its quick throttle and strong mid-range performance. The automatic is smooth for city driving while the manual is a better performer and more fuel efficient so it’s a great option for enthusiasts.
Driving Dynamics
Ride and Handling
Kylaq strikes a balance between sporty handling and ride comfort. The steering is light and precise so it’s fun to drive on twisty roads. The suspension is firm at low speeds but settles down as you pick up the pace and is composed on the highway.
Fuel Efficiency
Skoda claims 19.05 km/l for the automatic and 19.68 km/l for the manual so the Kylaq is fuel friendly.
Price and Value
Priced between ₹7.89 lakh to ₹14.40 lakh (ex-showroom) the Kylaq undercuts some rivals and offers a premium feel. Skoda also promises competitive ownership costs so it’s a value for money.
Verdict
The 2025 Skoda Kylaq is a nice compact SUV that has European flair and practicality. It has almost everything the Kushaq has but at a lower price. If you are in the market for a stylish and fun-to-drive SUV the Kylaq is worth a look.
